Preview PAN Amsterdam 2026 at Okker Art Gallery in Amsterdam
Before PAN Amsterdam opens its doors in November, art lovers and collectors can already discover part of the presentation in Amsterdam.
From 9 through 11 October 2026, Okker Art Gallery will host a special preview bringing together modern art from Tom Okker Art and contemporary art from Okker Art Gallery.
Several of the works shown during these three days will later travel on to PAN Amsterdam 2026, where Tom Okker Art will present its collection, joined by Okker Art Gallery.
The preview offers an opportunity to experience the works before the fair, in the quieter and more intimate setting of the gallery.
Visits from 9 through 11 October are by appointment.
Modern and Contemporary Art Come Together in Amsterdam
The October preview brings together two related collections with their own distinct focus.
Tom Okker Art, based in Hazerswoude-Dorp, specialises in modern art, with a strong emphasis on post-war European art and CoBrA. Its collection includes artists such as Karel Appel, Corneille, Eugène Brands and Kees van Bohemen.
Okker Art Gallery, located on Vijzelstraat in the centre of Amsterdam, focuses on contemporary art and represents an international selection of artists working across painting, photography, sculpture and mixed media. Okker Art Gallery
For the PAN preview, works from both collections are shown side by side.
The result is not simply a division between modern and contemporary art. It creates a dialogue between generations: between gesture and material, figuration and abstraction, photography and painting, and between artists who helped define twentieth-century movements and artists developing their own visual language today.
A Glimpse of What Will Be on View
The works below represent only a small selection of the modern and contemporary art that can be seen at Okker Art Gallery from 9 through 11 October.
Modern Art from Tom Okker Art
The modern selection comes from the collection of Tom Okker Art and includes important examples of post-war Dutch and European art.

One of the central figures of CoBrA, Karel Appel developed a highly physical and expressive approach to painting.
In Personage, created in 1975, colour, gesture and paint come together in a figure that appears to emerge directly from the composition.
1975 · Oil on canvas · 51 × 66 cm
The work has previously been part of collections in Belgium and the Netherlands and is now part of the Tom Okker Art collection. Catalogus nieuwe werken

Created in 1960, Le Soleil Rouge dates from an important period in Corneille’s artistic development following the CoBrA years.
Strong colour contrasts and recognisable forms already point towards the increasingly personal visual language that would characterise much of his later oeuvre.
1960 · Oil on canvas · 73 × 73 cm
The work was exhibited at Museum Bochum in Germany during Corneille und Afrika in 1998 and is documented in Het oog van de zomer by Nico Koster and Tom Okker. Catalogus nieuwe werken

Eugène Brands was closely connected to the early CoBrA movement, yet his later work developed in a distinctly individual direction.
In Summer Breeze from 1991, broad areas of colour create a light and atmospheric composition in which abstraction, imagination and colour take precedence over recognisable imagery.
1991 · Oil on canvas · 75 × 90 cm Catalogus nieuwe werken

Colour and movement dominate Carnaval / Feest, painted by Kees van Bohemen in 1981.
Within the large square composition, figures seem to appear and disappear among broad painterly gestures. The work moves between figuration and abstraction, giving the scene an immediate sense of energy.
1981 · Oil on canvas · 100 × 100 cm
Its provenance includes a private collection in the United Kingdom and Tom Okker Art in Hazerswoude-Dorp. Catalogus nieuwe werken

Contemporary Art from Okker Art Gallery
Alongside the modern works, Okker Art Gallery presents a selection of contemporary art by artists working with very different materials and visual languages.
Photography, paper, graphic imagery and abstraction all become part of the conversation.

Tom Wesselmann became one of the defining figures of American Pop Art, developing a highly recognisable visual language based on strong colour, simplified form and imagery drawn from everyday life.
1960 Judy with Blue Blanket revisits one of the artist’s characteristic figurative compositions.
1998 · Screenprint in colours on museum board · Edition 37/75 · 76.2 × 100.3 cm
The work is included in the Tom Wesselmann Digital Corpus published by the Wildenstein Plattner Institute. Catalogus nieuwe werken

At first sight, the work of South Korean artist Suh Jeong Min can appear almost painterly.
A closer look at Lines of Travel 86 reveals an intricate relief made from traditional Korean hanji paper, rolled and assembled into a highly tactile composition.
Repetition, colour and material transform the paper into a surface that sits somewhere between painting and sculpture.
2022 · Hanji paper and mixed media · 110 × 110 × 13 cm
The work comes directly from the artist. Catalogus nieuwe werken

Belgian photographer Didier Engels finds abstraction in places that were never intended to be viewed as artworks.
Ship hulls, industrial surfaces and weathered layers of paint become compositions of colour, structure and texture.
In Urban Bloom, photography moves close to painting as traces of time and use become the visual subject of the work.

Filipp Jenikäe approaches familiar environments with a strong sense of composition and atmosphere.
In Poolside, South of France, the setting suggests Mediterranean leisure, yet the carefully constructed image invites a more contemplative way of looking.
The result lies somewhere between observation, memory and cinematic stillness.
